Breast reconstruction restores breast shape and volume following mastectomy or lumpectomy, using implants, the patient’s own tissue, or a combination of both. Reconstruction can be performed immediately at the time of mastectomy or delayed until the patient is ready, and can be staged over more than one surgery depending on the technique and any additional treatments (such as radiation) involved.
